                                              Natural bridges Owachomo bridge

bridge 1 The Natural Bridges National Monument was designated as Utah's first national monument in 1908, primarily to safeguard three naturally occurring sandstone bridges: Sipapu, Kachina und Owachomo. The bridges lie near the Colorado in Southern Utah. We visited the monument on our way from Moab (Arches und Canyonland) to Capitol Reef National Park great bridge

bridge 3 bridge 4 As the pictures show, the rocks here consist of Navajo beige sandstone, not the salmon colored Entrada sandstone that one sees in other areas on the Colorado plateau.

bridge 5

On the left is Owachomo bridge, Sipapu bridge can be seen on the right. The park has one street (one-way) that takes one on a round trip to the three main bridges.

Other than that, one can hike, pretty strnuous hikes on which one can see besides the bridges, Anazasi ruins. Since we visited on the way to Capitol Reef and still had a few hundred miles to go we skipped the rock climbing part. Hey, it is a valid excuse!!
